December is a busy month for the Decatur Bands and the Boosters. We have a concert coming up and as well as both student and Booster fundraisers close on their heels. There are several opportunities for students and parents to show their support for the Decatur Band program.
Decatur Bands Winter Concert – Thursday, December 12th – Decatur High School
The first concert of the school year will feature performances from the Decatur Concert Band, Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band. Come and meet the new Director of Bands, Mr. Chang, and check out what the bands have been doing for the past few weeks. The Boosters will have refreshments available (donations appreciated, see below). We will also have a beautiful holiday wreath and possibly a holiday themed basket or two for raffle. Doors open at 6:30, the music begins at7:00.
You can help
Refreshments for this concert are traditionally donated by students and parents. Homemade or store bought treats are graciously accepted. Although not required, it is helpful if items are bagged in portions appropriate for a $1 donation and if items with nuts are identified. Please feel free to drop these at the refreshment table around 6:30.
Also, if you would like to contribute an item for a holiday themed gift basket, this can be brought to Mr. Chang during school, or brought to the refreshment table before the concert. We will raffle off the basket(s) during the concert.
Decatur Band Applebee’s Fundraiser – Saturday December 14th 8:00-10:00 AM
No concert here (unless students bring their horns). This is just the good folks at the Federal Way Applebee’s helping to support the instrumental music programs at Decatur. It’s a pancake breakfast, and a great way to kick off a day of holiday shopping. And Decatur Band students get to keep half of the $10 ticket price. See your favorite Decatur Band student for tickets, or pick them up at the Winter Concert on the 12th. Wendy’s will donate 10% of their gross income received from 4:00-8:00 PM. This is a generous offer from Applebee’s that we hope to help make a mutual success.
Cell Phone and Holiday Light Recycling Fundraisers
Do you have any old cell phones around that you no longer use? How about any of those pesky holiday lights that only half the string works or that you want to replace with more energy efficient LED lights? Want to get rid of these in an ecologically responsible way and benefit Decatur Bands at the same time? Have we got a deal for you! The Boosters are collecting cell phones and holiday lights for recycling. We will have receptacles at the Winter Concert for you to drop these items off. Can’t give up these items until after the holidays? No problem. We will continue to collect phones and light strings into the New Year as long as they keep coming in. Just bring the items to the Decatur band room, and we’ll do the rest. These items will be recycled instead of going to landfills, and the money will go toward reducing student costs for this year’s band trip. It’s a win-win for everyone!
