Guest Artist Concert Friday, November 6

The first concert of the year for Decatur Bands is coming up this Friday evening at 7:00.  This special event will feature guest artist John Harbaugh, Professor of Trumpet at Central Washington University.

At this concert you will have the unique opportunity to observe both a performance and a clinical working session.  It will be a great chance for both students and parents to listen and learn from one of the best.  And even though we’re fresh off marching season, Mr Chang has worked his usual magic to quickly get the bands into top notch concert performance mode.  So bring your friends and neighbors.  This will be a great evening of music and a lot of fun for everyone.

Disney 2016 Trip Discussion at October Booster Meeting

That’s right.  We’re headed back to Disneyland this year!  Although it’s not until next spring, questions about the trip have already started to surface, especially from students and parents who have not previously experienced a major band trip such as this.  Questions like this happens every year, and especially on years when the band takes extended, multi-day trips.

We will be discussing this trip at the October Band Booster meeting on Tuesday, Oct 6, 7:00PM in the Decatur Band Room.  All students and parents, especially those who haven’t traveled with the band before,  are encouraged to attend.

In order to answer common questions and help steer student (and parent) expectations, we have prepared a travel guide and student/parent contract for this year’s trip to Disneyland.  All traveling students and their parents must understand and sign this contract before traveling with the band.  We encourage all students and parents, and especially those who have not traveled with the band before, to print and become familiar with this document before the October Booster meeting.  You are encouraged to bring it along and ask any additional questions during or after the meeting.  We will be discussing the travel policies, financial issues, fundraising, and other related topics.

You can download this year’s contract from the link on our “Disney 2016 page.  We are still working on the itinerary for this year’s trip and will post it on the same page as soon as we have more definite information.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the meeting on October 6.

2015-16 Band Handbooks Now Online

The 2015-16 DHS Band Handbook is now posted on our Forms page.  This is a great reference that includes dates for most of this year’s band performances and events, so you can add them to your calendar now.  Information on uniforms is also in the handbook.  You can download this year’s handbook by simply clicking on the link on the forms page.  Don’t forget to fill out the contact information on the back of the last page and turn it in to Mr. Chang so you can get periodic information emails from the Band Boosters.

!! Thanks To All !!

Now that I’ve almost caught my breath, I wanted to take a quick moment to thank EVERYONE involved in this year’s Big Band Showcase.  The students, the parents, the bands, the faculty… everyone that worked hard and that contributed to this year’s event.  Every person there seemed to enjoy the show, and I’ve heard only positive comments.  This was truly one of, if not the best Showcase during my association with the Decatur Band program.  I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did, and I look forward to seeing everyone again (and a bunch more) at next year’s Showcase!

Quick Reminder – April Booster Meeting Delayed (No Foolin’!)
Due to spring break, the April Band Booster meeting will be delayed until Tuesday the 14th.  We will be celebrating and  debriefing on the Showcase, and discussing upcoming Band events and adventures.  Hope you can make it.

Have a great Spring Break!
